January 2023: Beneath the Surface, Flora, and annual planning

Take a peak at what I have been creating in my studio throughout January 2023!

I started working on my winter 2022-2023 series, Beneath the Surface, in my live drawing sessions during my December shows. This series personifies icebergs alluding to the hidden aspects of people beneath their physical appearance.

I studied various pictures of Arctic seascapes for references. I translated my inspirations into my vision by merging the icebergs with figurative forms and rendering them in my own unique color palette.

My latest work, Midnight Lotus, is currently on exhibit as part of the juried show, Flora, at White Rabbit Galleries, Barberton, Ohio.

This piece illustrates the personal path of self transformation. We can bloom at any time in our lives, there is no such thing as a ‘late bloomer.’ Throughout our lives we are challenged to constantly adapt and reinvent ourselves.

January was a busy month as I was steadily producing work while planning my annual shows. My latest work will debut at Oddmall Expedition Elsewhere, February 25th and 26th in Akron, Ohio.

I’m excited to dive in to working on a new spring series throughout February!
